The JaggerSpun merino is a fine, soft yarn in a beautiful array of solid colors, made from the finest grade of 100% Australian merino wool. It is a fine yarn, 18/2 weight, 5040 yards per pound, or 630 yd in the 2-oz skein. We sell it either by the pound or by the skein.
For knitting: This is a fine yarn, making it ideal for laceweight projects. Merino will not stand up well as socks unless you use reinforcement across the heel and toe. If the yarn is doubled, it knits as a sportweight, about 24st/4 in., making it another possible substitute for such yarns as Rowan's Lightweight DK, or Alice Starmore's Scottish Campion. Itcomes only in solid colors, but can be easily used with the JaggerSpun zephyr. Because it has not been prescoured, it will shrink the first timeit is washed about 15%. Either prewash it before knitting, or buy the JaggerSpun Knitting merino, which has been prewashed. For Weaving: As is true for all the JaggerSpun yarns, the fiber and spin of this yarn is excellent, and it can be used for both warp and weft. Dent is about 20 epi. The yarn is not prescoured, and does full nicely, so make your piece about 7% longer than you want the finished project to be if it is tightly woven. |
